Robert J. Freeman, executive director and chief attorney of the Committee on Open Government of the NYS Department of State, will lead a discussion of how to create openness and transparency in the public sector.
This is especially important information at a time when town boards and other municipal governance bodies are shutting down public discussion and passing resolutions that do us harm under cover of secrecy — subverting our rights and squelching democracy.
Director since the Committee on Open Government was created in 1974, Freeman will articulate in full what he calls Government’s obligation to “…engage in the Spike Lee principle of the law – you do the right thing.”
Whether you serve on a public board, work for a governmental agency, or are a journalist, teacher, student or concerned citizen, you’re invited to learn about these important laws from the man who wrote them.
