      WHAT: The Fifth Izzy Award, bestowed by the Park Center for Independent Media, will be given to Mother Jones for its outstanding accomplishments in independent journalism in 2012.

      WHEN: Wednesday, April 17, 2013, 7:30 p.m.

      WHERE: Emerson Suites, Campus Center (Phillips Hall), Ithaca College, 953 Danby Road, ithaca, NY 14850

      WHO: Washington Bureau chief David Corn, publisher Steve Katz, and environment/energy/reproductive rights reporter Kate Sheppard will accept the award, and each will speak as well. PCIM director Jeff Cohen will lead off the evening and act as host/moderator.

    2. Delaware County Planning Board Meeting
      7:00 pm – 8:00 pm

      Even if you do not live in Delaware County- the decisions this board makes will affect you!

      The Delaware County Planning Board Meeting is making decisions for all of Delaware County (and affecting the neighboring area).  So far they have had a free run with no public scrutiny or intervention. Advisors Shelly Johnson and Nicole Franchazi are PRO-GAS, and are doing everything they can to push for pipelines and fracking to come to Delaware Co. So if we want to protect our towns we must keep an eye on what they’re planning for our area.

      What:  Public Hearing of the House Democratic Policy Committee
      When: Thursday, May 2, 2013, 10:00 a.m.
      Where:  Minority Caucus Room (Room 418, Main Capitol building), Harrisburg PA

      State Representative Greg Vitali will host a hearing of the House Democratic Policy Committee in Harrisburg on Thursday, May 2nd  on shale gas development in Pennsylvania.

      The hearing will be broken down into four panels: Air issues, water issues, public health/public disclosure, and surface issues.

      The hearing is focused on what to do with regards to drilling in those communities where it is already happening.
